Five million more baby birds could survive until fledging if the average US household simply had three more native keystone plants in their backyard.

We’ll donate the plants and plant them in your backyard for you, at no change. All you have to do is sign up here.

You can reverse the decline!

Our mission!

We’ve lost 3 billion breeding birds in the US since 1970. Insects are also in extreme decline, and according to scientists, experts, and the New York Times, “The Insect Apocalypse is Here”.

YOBY is on a mission to reverse the decline by transforming local ecosystems, one backyard at a time.

“But what can I do in the
faces of such overwhelming
numbers?”

There is hope, and you can
do something. You can let
us plant some shrubs in your yard!

How it works

YOBY will donate three plants or shrubs and plant them in your yard for free. We try to do as many houses as possible on one street or neighborhood so that we can create a significant food source for pollinators and birds, as well as habitat.

“What? That sounds crazy! You’re going to give me shrubs and plant them for free? How can I say no to that?”

Yes, exactly.

This is something extremely simple, effective, and easy.  In YOBY.

More is More

It’s simple. The more keystone native trees and shrubs growing in our yards, the more caterpillars, butterflies, moths, and birds we will have, and the more resilient the ecosystem around us will be.

What are keystone native plants?

Planting natives in your garden is good, but some are better than others because of the number of species that rely on them.

“Keystone plants are natives that are essential to our ecosystems because they support 90% of the caterpillar species that enable our terrestrial birds to reproduce, as well as all of our specialist native bee species.”   - National Wildlife Federation

In the northeast, there are several trees and shrubs that play a huge role as host plants for butterflies, moths, and other pollinators.  Without them, the pollinators can’t make the next generation. These natives can make a huge difference when planted in your own backyard!
